Since October 23, 1999 Hamburg has a geological attraction of the first rank. In September, was found in dredging to deepen the Elbe fairway in about 15 feet of water a boulder large scale. The boulder was baptized on 6 June 2000 in the name of "Old Swede" and officially naturalized.

The giant boulder takes with these dimensions, one a leading position in the ranking of the largest boulders of northern Germany. At the same time, it is the oldest large boulder Germany: While the other great erratics reached their localities by the glaciers of the Vistula River and the Saale glaciation, this boulder was brought here already during the Elster glaciation.
