The Fog

The Fog

The Statue of Christ (Cristo Rei) is across the Tagus River from Lisbon. Citizens of Lisbon who were grateful that Portugal did not join the fight in World War II built the statue as a thanks to God. The statue is a replica of the Statue of Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado in Rio de Janiero, Brazil (although smaller). The view from the top is fantastic, but also from the grounds around the view of Lisbon and the Bridge and river are great. In the base you will find a small church. The 28m (90ft) figure of Christ opens its arms to Lisbon, and there is a sweeping view of the city and 25 de Abril Bridge from the top of the 82m (270ft) high pedestal (reached by an elevator).
